What a comeback! Shootout thriller victory in Coach Scholz’s debut!

Our new coach Christopher Scholz could hardly have wished for a better debut! After an intense training camp, our boys claimed a 3–2 shootout victory in their first preseason game against the visitors from Groningen, Netherlands.

From the opening faceoff, our team showed that despite the exhausting days of training, they were ready to compete. The boys applied plenty of pressure in the first period, created numerous scoring opportunities and really put their stamp on the game. The only thing missing was a goal – 0–0 after 20 minutes.

In the second period, we lost our rhythm a little and Groningen found their way into the game. The visitors made the most of their opportunities and took a 2–0 lead.

But our boys refused to give up!

In the third period, they found another gear and suddenly there was plenty of fire back on the ice. On the power play, our new signing Kalle Hällfors sparked the comeback with his goal to make it 2–1.

And the boys wanted more! Shortly afterwards, Kevin Grasmik scored the much-celebrated equalizer to make it 2–2!

The game was wide open again and ultimately had to be decided in a shootout.

And who else but Kevin Grasmik would step up as the match-winner?

Kevin kept his cool and converted the decisive penalty shot – 3–2! VICTORY!

A special mention goes to our U20 players, who were given plenty of ice time and made excellent use of the opportunity.

The young players put in a very impressive performance, played with confidence and courage, and made a really strong impression. Performances like this show just how much potential there is in our youth program and that these young players are ready to take on responsibility.

For Coach Scholz, the strong performances from the U20 players will certainly have been another important and very positive takeaway from the game.

Conclusion

An intense first preseason test after a demanding training camp – and at the same time, a successful debut for our new coach Christopher Scholz.

Of course, there are still plenty of things to improve, but above all, the team showed one thing: fighting spirit, character and the determination never to give up on a game!

Coach Scholz was able to gather some valuable first impressions under competitive conditions. Now it’s time to keep working, keep developing and take the next steps!
